Impressions: the dark, almost comedic elements reminded me of a Tim Burton film. There was something about Everett that was relatable for me–maybe the fact that he was an art student, too, or the feeling of being invisible all the time. Upon finishing reading the story, my thoughts were that Mr. Ralph was a “grown-up”, adult version of Everett. Neither has any great aspirations for his life, both seemingly lost in mediocrity or invisibility.
Liked the line: “… just another of the vast minority of the through-the-crack slippers.” Love the oxymoron.
